In 1976, this 35-year-old woman went to her doctor because of nausea and abdominal pains. She was given antacids and had x-rays which were negative. Two months passed and the woman was still having problems, so she went back to her doctor and she was told she was pregnant. The physician told her that her baby, which was now at about 10-weeks-old, could have been damaged from the x-rays, so she decided to abort. She was referred to a doctor, but did not see him for 4 weeks. When she did have the abortion, she was 15-weeks pregnant and had a prostaglandin abortion which was begun at the doctor’s office. Shortly into the procedure, she had nausea and vomiting, then became unresponsive with no pulse. CPR was started, and she was transported to a local emergency room. Upon arrival, she was comatose with no pulse or blood pressure, and was in ventricular fibrillation. She was resuscitated and later delivered her aborted child. She was transferred to a university hospital, but she never really improved, remaining partially paralyzed until her death, five months after her abortion. She left behind 6 children.
